WOW! How do you get the picture to look so good when you are looking right into the sun. I always try to get those shots but the sun always takes up the whole shot and then I miss out on all the other details.
Jan, I shoot in manual mode 90% of the time. I don't let the camera choose what is most important to me. But you can do this with a point and shoot camera also. You have to underexpose the photo. Your camera is going to read the scene as being very bright, which it is. But when you dial in some compensation you are telling the camera that you want the scene to be darker than it is. A little trial and error and you should be able to nail it.
