Golden Mountains

I saw this view as I was leaving the golf course this evening. It reminded me of Korea and the way the sun sets and rises there. There isn't a sunset. It is a sunglow.

Lauren's 7th Birthday

My darling niece Lauren had her 7th birthday today and we celebrated by going to see one of her soccer games. She was so darling in her uniform and pigtails. We had an absolute blast hanging out with her and some of my family. Here are a few pics from her game.

Kirei Coconut

I have never really cared much for Island design. Perhaps because I live in Utah and the closest I come to anything island related is Rumbi Grill or the fake palm tree in some seedy bar. (That reminds me of a time we found this super cool Tiki Bar in Boise. I believe it was called The Monkey Bar. Check it out if you make it up to Boise.) Anyhow, I saw these tiles over at Kirei and was floored by the modern look and feel of these coconut tiles. Of course they have been used in moderation and add a ton of drama and texture to the room. I love textures. They make the room have more feeling. I love what they did with the tiles and the mirror frame. On top of looking cool they are recycled from discarded coconut shells. So you are helping the environment while making your house look awesome!

While you are over at Kirei, check out the new Kirei Chocolate Bamboo. I feel some Island pieces may be in my future.

Too Much

Over at Apartment Therapy there is a post about room design being overdone. They have a few examples, and honestly, all of the rooms they show from the recent San Francisco house tours are all overdone. Well, in my lonely opinion anyway. I was reading through a few of the comments and was surprised by a description of showroom design being excessively overdone. As with graphic design, interior design, should hold true to the hierarchy of the design itself. There is a headline or image that should tell almost the entire story without you having to read the rest of the ad. Then there are support elements that support the headline. Room design is no different. If you have a kick-ass sofa, awesome paintings, and killer lamps, where is the focal point? The whole room? NO! That is not what design is about. If that were the case you could jam pack the entire room with individually interesting items and be done with it. Design is a process of editing a style and creating a feeling and esthetic that you want the room to have. Find a few select items, colors, or pieces and build the room around those. You will most assuredly see a difference.

Sam

I just got home from photographing one of my friend's sons. Downloaded and backed-up all of the photos and was quickly going through them when I saw this one. It just melts your heart. He is absolutely adorable! Little Sam was so much fun to photograph. He was all over the place and all boy. He loved to throw everything, was great at giving knuckles and would repeatedly tell you he is one. So, so darling.
