U2

This was an absolutely amazing show. When I first saw promotions for this show, the first thing I thought of was The Beatles show "Love". Now, granted, one is a light show put to music while the other is Cirque Du Soleil, but they are both "eye candy" as a friend of mine refers to this kind of show.

I have never been to Clark Planetarium. We were early and had a great time wandering around the exhibits and reading some fascinating things about our solar system. The show was in the Dome Theater, where the screen is the ceiling, and hence the name, a dome. It started out a little slow with "Where the Streets Have No Name" and a visual display that I didn't think fit very well. Plus, the music was a little quiet. I like to feel the music as well as hear it. Those two minor complaints should not at all be regarded as a negative mark towards the show, but solely as a remark about my feelings for when the show began. After the first song everything seemed to come together better and I was enthralled.  The graphics were great and what could be better than listening to U2. I was pleased that they played a lot of their older music. I was worried that it would be more of their modern music. Not that this would be a bad thing, but I grew up listening to U2 and this music means a great deal to me. It brings back a lot of memories and times long past. The compilation was very well done and I highly recommend it to anyone. Well, maybe not Amy. She got nauseous during Cloverfield.

A great show and wonderful music. Check it out.

What the Holga?

Do you ever miss taking pictures with film? I don't very often, but every once in a while I enjoy breaking out the 35mm and shooting a roll or two. You know, just for geewizzie. A couple of weeks ago I was on Flickr and saw some pretty interesting photos from a photographer using a Holga. A what? A HOLGA! It's this ultra expensive, super high tech medium format camera. OK, I lied. It costs $20 and is about as high tech as my hat. Literally. It leaks light, has almost no control, and most of your photos will probably end up like crap. Hey... it's a great adventure and you just might end up with some pretty cool (interesting) photos. Well, I bought one about a week ago and a few rolls of film. Talk about fun! I have never shot any medium format film, so that was kind of interesting. Let me tell you, the Internet is awesome. Just Google anything and you get an instant answer to your question. So I read all about using a Holga, adding tape to block out light leaks, and winding medium format film. Sweet! I shot two rolls, 24 shots. Ha ha. 24 SHOTS! Please. I rattle off that many photos in less than 3 seconds with my Nikon. Did I mention that the Holga is completely manual? Well... kind of. It doesn't really have any controls to set. One shutter speed, two apertures, and four focal distances. No focusing? Come on, you can't have everything. Buy one. You will love it. I got my photos back from the lab today and am pleasantly surprised. I guess I didn't know what to expect because you hear so many horror stories online. Whatever. I had a blast and can't wait to go out and shoot my Holga some more.

Utah Jazz

We went to the Jazz game last night with Todd and Tyson to watch Little Miss Baylie shake it during half time. I was quite impressed with the little one and her dancing. You couldn't get me out there doing anything. Here are some photos on Jill's blog.

Did you know that the Timberwolves suck? The Jazz beat them by 30 points. Sorry Gretchen, but you need a new team. I was a fun evening and I enjoyed spending it with good people. I did get a few pics, but none that I really liked. I had the wrong lens on my camera for sports. The shot of Boozer shooting free throws was pretty cool, and when they won the game and dropped the streamers. See all the empty seats? Ya, everyone left with about five minutes left in the game!

Skiing at Wolf Mountain

Continuing on from my golfing "Life is Good" post, here is the skiing post.
We went skiing the Jill and Todd, Todd's brother Tyler and his girlfriend Lindsey. We had an absolute ball. It was a small mountain and one I would probably never go to on my own. But this was Baylie's first time skiing and Tyson's first time snowboarding, so the mountain was perfect. I, of course, brought my camera and had so much fun shooting pictures of everyone. (Click on the link below to see some of them.) Todd, Susan, and I did get in a couple of good runs, but even without those it was one of the best times skiing I have ever had. There is a bunch of commentary along with the photos, so I will shut up and let you go to the photos.
