Cave of Roses

I thought I would post a photo or two from the shoot I did last night with a group called Cave of Roses. They are a local band from Salt Lake and I think we came up with some great photos. They practice in a studio in downtown Salt Lake and this first picture was taken in this old nasty boiler room in the basement. It was perfect for the kind of photo I was trying to achieve. The second photo was outside of the studio and we shot it around 11 pm. It was as cold as hell, but every bit worth the cold for the photo.

HDR

I was playing around a little bit with HDR today. There have been a lot of negative reviews about Photoshop's HDR conversion, but as I am only just barely skimming the surface of HDR, I thought I would give it a try. I haven't used any other programs to make any sort of comparison, but I am pretty happy with Photoshop's HDR. It was beginning to snow today and I went outside and set my camera on a electrical box and bracketed three frames at +/- 2 stops. I am really pretty happy with the outcome. I did one version that looks really cool, although a little cartoonish. I have seen other HDR images done this way and sometimes it looks really good. This one is toned down a lot, but I like the way it turned out.

Vinia

I have been doing some work for a local Salt Lake band called Vinia. Last night we had a shoot at their studio, and talk about awesome. They are so easy to work with and have great attitude and personality. We spent a few hours and got some great photos. I am going to add a couple of my favorites, even though there are plenty of great photos. It is nice working with a group of guys who are passionate about what they are doing and work hard to be better. I also enjoy that they give me a lot of flexibility with the creative process and listen to the things I have to say as a photographer and a designer. All of this, along with marketing, go hand in hand to promote the image you are trying to employ. Here are a couple of my favorite pics.

Customize

One of the reasons I have not used an online blog is because I want it to look like the rest of my website and I didn't feel like maintaining a blog and my website in two different locations. Anyway, I have spent most of the evening tonight trying to edit the CSS to mimic the rest of my website. So far so good, but the real test will be uploading it to my site and seeing how the two react to each other. So here goes....

Blog This!

I having been creating my blog manually using HTML, and talk about SLOW!!!! Half of the time I pass on posting as I don't have the time to invest in the blog. I am hoping that this will be a little easier to quickly throw up some text and a pic or two. I like the idea of keeping a blog, but don't want it to be a major time investment. We shall see now won't we.
