I just saw this online and I am so excited to see what he has come up with. James Nachtwey is a photographer with the VII Photo Agency and he won the TED prize. I love to follow the work of VII and am really looking forward to Friday to see his images. Click on the X above to find out more about the photos that will be released on Friday or to watch his acceptance prize with TED. It is going to be amazing.

Fall

I went mountain biking the other day with some friends and was amazed at what a couple of weeks will do to the leaves. We were up at Solitude Ski Resort and it was absolutely gorgeous. I didn't even care about riding. I just wanted to take pictures. The only problem was I didn't have a wide angle lens with me. I did get some very good photos that day, but I promised myself I would come back by myself and get some of the fantastic Fall photos. So, after work today I decided to put off some of the other pressing things I need to get done and took off up the canyon, trying to beat the dying light. Crisp air met me once I left my car, but I readily welcomed it. It has been warm in the valley and the cold air felt so good. It was so peaceful. The changing season has not come very far down the canyon, but I know it won't be long until all of the trees are changing. I am really looking forward to fall this year.

Healing Field

A great deal has been said today on the web and on the news about 9/11. Everyone handles tragedy differently, but I don't think there is anyone who has not been supremely affected by 9/11. I was watching the video I posted early and the minute I saw those images cold chills ran up my spine and I was overcome with that same hopeless/horror feeling I had when I was watching all of this unfold seven years ago. Seven years. It is hard to imagine that it has been that long, and yet, the emotions and feeling are as raw as the day it happened.

These photos are from the Healing Field in Sandy City. They put up hundreds of these flags every year. I have been here before but never with my camera and tripod. As you walk onto this field and take a minute to think about what this field represents, you thank God that you live in this country where a flag, a symbol, has the power to heal. My heart goes out to all of the people who lost a loved one on that tragic day, and to the rest of the world whose heart's ached along with them. No, we will never forget.

West Virginia Wedding

I was going through my photos from the wedding I shot while in West Virginia and thought I would post one. I love this photo for many reasons. One, you can't help but love the location. They were married on a river boat as it made its way down the Ohio River. It was gorgeous. Two, I love the groom's uniform and the flag above them. It seems I am constantly reminded of how indebted we are to the soldiers of this great country. Not only these soldiers, but the soldiers who have fought for this country to make it was it is today. It was an honor and a privilege to photograph this wedding.

The Bobsled

I was a little skeptical of the ride tonight. Not because of the trail. I have been on it a number of times already this year (two weeks ago to be exact). But the weather was getting progresively worse all day. I figured I would at go to the parking lot and see who showed up. As I drove I-15 it started to sprinkle and I really doubted very many people would show up, if any. When I pulled into the parking lot I was surprised to see five guys already there. I was twenty minutes early too. By the time six rolled around we had nine people show up. Who's scared of a little rain?! More...

Denver (again)

I woke up early Sunday morning and decided to go out and get some photos. Denver is a fantastic city to photograph with a great mix of modern and old architecture. I was amazed at how vibrant the city was early on a Sunday morning. Here are some more photos.

Denver

It seems like we have been traveling non-stop for the last few weeks. In reality we have. We are on our way to Denver today for some photos tomorrow. Denver is one of my all time favorite cities and I am always glad to get back there. More photos.
